Match Report Eccleston Amber v BAC
Both Eccleston Amber and BAC travelled to Euxton Villas' ground for the challenge cup final for what promised to be a great game of football. From a neutral point of view it didn't dissappoint with just about everything a cup final should have and both sets of parents clearly more nervous than the teams.BAC kicked off and both sides started well with some good passing, tackling and movement. The game was about as even as it could be with both teams going forward well and then getting back to defend when losing the ball. Both keepers were tested on numerous occassions and both were well up for it. The first goal came for Amber when a great corner from Ryan saw the ball bundled into the back of the net to the relief of the whole team.
That was the last action in the first half and the second kicked off in the same vein. BAC piled on the pressure but some great defending from Henry and Joseph kept them at bay. Zac linked up well in midfield with Matt, Ryan and both Jacks. Amber then had a good spell of play and some great possitional play keeping them infront. Luke slotted into the midfield and Amber continued to dig deep. The match was drawing to a close when BAC capitalised on an Amber mistake at the back to drive the ball into the net giving James no chance of a save.
Extra time began with both teams tired from all the effort put into normal time. The nerves were starting to show and again the passing from both sides was a credit to the cup final. A break away from Ambers defence led to a great pass through from Matt into the path of Zac, who still had plenty to do, and calmly slotted into the net for a well taken goal. The second period of extra time began with BAC pressing forward, sensing defeat, throwing everyone forward for a tense finale. James was called into action a number of times and made a stunning save by tipping the ball over the bar from a looping hot. In the closing moments of the game BAC again came from behind in a similar goal to their first to take the game level and force extra time. As both sides couldn't be split the only answer was a penalty shootout.
Some great penalties and saves by both keepers saw them go to sudden death and BAC coming out on top to win a very memorable match. Both sides can hold their heads up high with a very even tie and a great game of football to make every parent proud. James and Joseph were both voted man of the match by both parents and managers for their outstanding contributions but everyone else played their part in such a memorable match which won't be forgotten for a long time.
